The Dharma of Pleasure

Description

Price Options:

Standard Rate: £109

Supporter Rate: £119

Theme:

What would happen if we were to turn one of Buddhism's premises on its head, and instead recognise how much we cling to pain as well as pleasure - if not more?
Sometimes it can seem that we are much better at suffering than at enjoying and being at ease. Far from being against pleasure, early Buddhism is a form of refined hedonism. It builds on our natural tendency to seek what feels good, enabling us to train and refine it, so that instead of being tied down in unhealthy patterns, we can use this natural tendency to help us work towards liberation.
This perspective, which many have lost sight of, can balance approaches to dharma practice that are excessively ‘rationalist’ or that double down on our tendency to focus on suffering and the negative.
During four online sessions, we will see how exploring the pleasant can enhance our lives, nourish altruism, deepen our meditation practice, and be a fertile ground for insights.
